Kick Veldman (2000)

Thoughtful and inventive, Kick Veldman's artworks explore the complex relationships between individuals and everyday objects. His practice is a transformative journey which uncovers the extraordinary within the ordinary, enabling us to view the things around us through new and unexpected lenses. His work is meticulous, and each piece encapsulates both the beauty and significance of his materials and the quality of his craftsmanship.
His series CASTING MIRRORS, for example, investigates human self-perception. Drawing inspiration from the earliest mirrors, which were crafted by polishing volcanic obsidian, Veldman sought out a similar raw material in his surroundings. He gathered discarded aluminum from streets and scrapyards, transforming it through a careful process of melting, casting, machining, and polishing. The resulting artworks pay tribute to the material’s inherent qualities and engage with it to explore the complexities of self-reflection. Through this process, Veldman creates a connection between object and observer, offering a fresh perspective on both the mirror itself and the act of looking inward.
Kick's work has been shown in a number of group shows in Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy, and will be showcased on our stand this year at PAD London.
