SIX STEP LADDER pays homage to the ladder as both a functional tool and a powerful symbol. Ever-present yet often overlooked, ladders carry profound significance across cultures—representing ascent, connection, and transformation. Crafted from cast, recycled aluminum, including fragments of old and broken ladders, this work reflects cycles of rebirth and reinvention. It highlights the ladder’s quiet presence in our lives: an essential tool that has shaped the world as we know it. There is no building constructed without one, no progress achieved without its humble support. Among the oldest manmade tools, ladders have taken countless forms, bridging gaps, enabling creation, and carrying symbolic weight—from spiritual ascent in ancient cultures to the simple act of building upward. With SIX STEP LADDER, Veldman captures the quiet strength and enduring relevance of the ladder, celebrating its role as both an object of utility and a timeless symbol of progress and possibility.
