Leo Aerts ()
Thirty years after his coffee table design for B&B Italia, interior architect and driving force behind Alinea, Leo Aerts still designs functional objects and furniture with strong clear lines and an aesthetic appearance. In 1987, the Meta coffee table became a huge success for B&B Italia and Leo Aerts decided to pay more attention to furniture design in addition to his interior architecture projects. The work of Leo Aerts is characterised by timeless, pure design and aesthetic compositions that transcend the functional. The appreciation for his work is expressed by the many international awards. Long before sustainability, cradle to cradle, recycling and the circular economy were involved, all these aspects were already integrated into his design philosophy and designs.
About the company Alinea Design Objects:
Interior architect and designer Leo Aerts has run his own design agency Alinea for more than 30 years. In addition to this, in 1995 he launched Alinea Design Objects, the label with which all Leo Aerts’ object and furniture designs are promoted and sold. Design has become part of his lifestyle. He swears by sober functional and timeless design that can be passed on from generation to generation. Neither Leo nor his designs can be categorized easily. The leitmotif? Durable materials full of charac- ter. According to Leo, quality should always take precedence over quantity — everywhere. His designs have repeatedly received national and international awards and accolades, including the coveted German Red Dot Award as well as the German Design Award, the Good Design Award in Chicago, and the AZ Award in Toronto. The Alinea Design Objects collection is now being expanded with Angelo M, a collection of natural stone tables, which feature a sculptural form, sturdy material an elegant line and a refined finish.
