Abel Cárcamo ()

Born in Chile and currently living and working in Paris, France, Abel Cárcamo has shown work in exhibitions around the world, participating in events such as Paris Design Week, Collectible Brussels, Pura Cerámica in Santiago, Chile, the Bienal latinoamericana de diseño – Matadero in Madrid, Spain, Milan Design Week in Italy, Design Days Geneva and PAD, to name just a few.

Traditional hands-on techniques are a key element of his approach, and his knowledge and love of materials such as wood and bronze are reflected in his seamless, sculptural designs. Inspired by the connections that can appear unexpectedly between different stylistic periods, his work turns on true craftsmanship. Unique and instantly recognisable, his work is at the forefront of contemporary design, but each form also has something archetypical about it, something that gives it a timeless, symbolic quality. His aesthetic is minimalist but it has soul, and each piece he creates has an undeniable life of its own. His Arctic Fox bench-sculpture and Llama chair-sculptures, for example, are not just collectible pieces of contemporary design, they bring joy.
