Michela Cattai ()

Michela Cattai is based in Milan and Venice. Having graduated in painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice where she was taught by Fabrizio Plessi, she began her research on glass at a Design course held by Ennio Chiggio. In 1992, she founded the Galleria Michela Cattai in Milan, with the aim of creating a dialogue between art and design. With roots still in Venice, she decided to deepen her study of glass by experimenting with the Murano blown glass method. Having learnt renaissance techniques and studied the history of glass in the XX century, Michela Cattai developed her own processes. Through the careful study of colour and shape, she creates abstract artworks that reflect her history and identity.

The result of her most recent research is reflected in the dialogue she creates between glass and recycled materials. Here, she not only moves beyond the classical rules of glass working, she also draws the public’s attention to a global and very contemporary theme. This reflective artistic process echoes her desire to create something meaningful for future generations. Michela Cattai’s artworks are presented in international exhibitions and fairs and are part of private and public collections. She collaborates with Venini both as a designer and as a curator.
